That is correct. The pigment load is very high in the PiezoTone K6 and
K7 inkset and will not take on ANY glossy fiber or rc media. We've
tried it a number of ways. Personally I don't think it is even desirable.
As one who has used the Epson solution since the very beginning with
rips like QTR as well as the newer improved Ultrachrome K3 set and the
ABM driver, there is nothing as beautiful and smooth as the latest
version of PiezoTone. This is a very 3 dimensional rendition when
properly linearized and used on high end rag media like Hahnemuhle.
All this is provided you are starting with a superior file in the
first place. That is a big factor. I've been doing monochrome prints
every week for say, 25 years and the smooth richness of the black
density and tonal seperation is astounding. I'm not sure this is even
measureable with a mechanical device like a spectrometer but it is
there for your eyes to see. To me the Epson K3 when printed on papers
like Innova Gloss or Silver Rag are nice but don't come close to
PiezoTone K6 on a good matte paper for the optical depth.
