Toning with Epson and ABW
2006-09-22 by ajberky
I am looking for standard setting to tone prints with the 2400 usingABW. I have had some success with various toning actions -one from The Light's Right Studio and another from ePaperPress. I've even created my own tones - like one that mimics LensWork - usinga tutorial offered on ePaperPress/photoshop/b&w/copy a tone. But these need paper (color) profiles to print. I've not had success with the Crane's Silver Rag profile, though mylast post engendered some helpful responses from D. Tobie and othersfor loading the paper differently and flattening the paperbeforehand. But I've already invested in a GM EyeOne Display2monitor profiling package and am not really ready to change to thePrintFixPro system. With ABW and canned setting dark , my untoned prints look good and haveshadow detail, but with the SR profile the shadows are muddy. Ido better with Ilford Smooth profiles and their papers. I likethe look of platinum, selenium, sepia, and even duotonesconverted to RGB so I need some guidance from someone withexperience for the SR paper. I really like using the K3 Epson pigments and would be loathe toswitch. I also have an Epson 1270 dye based printer which hasmade some handsome prints in the past but I have not tried the SR withthis machine.
