Epson 2000P under Mac OSX

2006-10-06 by Vladimir Kabelik

Hi,

I was one of the first users who bought Epson 2000P archival pigment
printer. It worked well under the older MacOS9. My problems
developed after the switchover to OSX and they continue until today.

Not only that several features had disappeared with OSX but lately,
with OS 10.4.8, my 2000P ceased to work (although it still works well
with Win XP). When I send a print job from my PS CS2, it always stops
(before printing) very frustrating.

I cannot use the latest (2006) Epson driver because it is only
intended for Intel based Macs. I have sent several e-mails to Epson
but their only advice was to reinstall the original driver (2001).

I downloaded GIMP PRINT 4 and my printer started to work again.
Nevertheless the colors are not as subtle as before, the paper
profiles are very rough.

Since mechanically the printer works well, I wonder if I could still
use it for BW. I believe that Piezography bypasses the Epson driver,
so there is hope.

Any other thoughts? How many 2000P are still in use on this planet?

Are we insane, stubborn or just extremely talented?

Regards,

Vlad

While I don't know what driver will work with the 2000P in your situation, I
found it to be an excellent printer with MIS's UT-FSN inks. They use the
Piezo densities, but I used the Epson driver. I expect the R2 inks would
also be easy to profile in the printer.

So, if you can use Photoshop curves, some of QTR's tools or other rip, you
might have a workable B&W solution.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your speedy reply! (Last time we exchanged e-mails when
I bought my Epson 3000). The key problem now is the SW/driver
conflict, the fact that my printer (under Epson v.1 driver) is all
about to start but immediately stops the print job. Once I solve
this, the rest will be much easier. I agree with you that,
mechanically, the 2000P printer is a good workhorse.

Best regards,

Vlad
