Eye-One Calibration Error

Eye-One Calibration Error

2006-10-12 by bwbonkers

I know this is a little off topic but I mainly use my Eye-One for
creating BW profiles so I hope no one objects to this post. I keep
getting a calibration error when either trying to use iMatch or Measure
Tool. The expensive doorstop has been checked by UK service department
and sent to Switzerland. No fault found. I mainly use it with my G4
Powerbook running 10.3.9 I have also tried it on my PC under windows
XP. Same problem on both computers. I have a clean installation on
both. Interestingly in Measure Tool using spot measure it works ! It
keeps failing when trying to measure a chart. Ocasionally it works but
not for long. This is driving me nuts. Any ideas.

The i1 needs more power than my USB port seemed to deliver; it would not
always work. After adding a hub with an external power supply to power the
USB bus, it works reliably now.

A second thought is to try using a different high quality USB cable. Sorry
this is so ambiguous.
A third thought is to plug it into a motherboard USB port on your desktop PC
(if you are currently using a front panel connector that goes though a
likely poor quality cable from the motherboard).

Best regards,
John Moody

Hi John

Thanks for reply. USB power is a thought but why would it work for spot measurement and
not for chart measurement. I have had the Eye-One for about 18 months. The first year it
worked without a hitch, its just since June I have been having this problem. First I thought
it might be an operating system problem. I recently did a clean install of 10.3 and then
upgrade to 10.4 Under 10.4 it did'nt work so I went back to 10.3 and all was well.
Unfortunately it did'nt last for long before the problem started again. However maybe its
not software but as you suggest USB power. I did try another cable and both ports on my
Powerbook to no avail.

When you say you had a problem did it manifest itself as a calibration error or was it
something else.

Many thanks.

Peter.

Peter,

I've had a similar problem, finally got it solved by sending it back to
Switzerland
(after UK sent it back fixed twice and it wasn't). Are you 100% sure its
been to Switzerland?

Do you have the standard eyeone test program and what does that report?

Email me off forum and I'll try and help - I know how frustrating this is.

Mike

I’m embarrassed to say that all I can remember is huge fits of swearing; and
I’m a very easygoing person.
I seem to recall that the problems were mostly read errors, not calibration.
