R220 no longer recognizes MIS carts

R220 no longer recognizes MIS carts

2006-11-03 by Roger

After a month or so of not using my R220 with MIS UT-R2 inks I
turned on the printer. The printer whirred and moved the carts as
usual but then stopped with a solid red light on. The status
monitor came up with the message "Ink cartridges cannot be
recognized"

Black: T0481
Cyan: T0482
Light Cyan: T0485
Magenta: T0483
Light Magenta: T0486
Yellow: T0484
The genuine EPSON ink cartridges listed above are recommended for
replacement. Click the How to button for ink cartridge installation
instructions.

I removed and put back in all the cartridges. No difference. I
swapped the MK for the PK but no difference. I tried resetting the
chips on two of the cartridges. The resetter glowed green, but no
difference.
I turned off the computer and printer and unplugged the printer
power and USB cable. I removed and replaced the carts. I plugged
it back in and turned the printer on. No difference.

Does anyone have any idea why it's doing this and how to fix it? I
don't have any Epson carts to test it with as I've only used MIS.

Your problem may well be with the chip. Sometimes re-setting the chip with a
reset tool will help. If you cannot get a green light on the reset tool,
then you may well need to replace the chip. If you do not have a spare,
various vendors can provide them. Clarence W. Walker artphotobooks.com

I'm struggling with the same difficulties. My R220 has performed
flawlesly for 8 months with EZ B&W continous flow with auto reset chips.
One day 2 carts are not recognized. Did all the VooDoo in all the proper
sequence and still not recognized. Swapped in the original unopened
carts that came with the printer and it worked for a while then the same
"carts not recognized" message. Epson wanted me to go out and buy all
new carts and see if it happened again. That would cost more than
replacing the printer! MIS is sending some replacement chips under
waranty. I'll let you know if that works.

Installed new auto reset chips and after some tweeking (inserting foam
earplugs behind the clips to push cart forward and improve contact of
chip to printer)all is well...EXCEPT...I uninstalled then re-installed
the print driver and now I only hav Epson papers and plain paper to
choose from. I remember a heavyweight Matte selection being available
previously.
