PremierArt Smooth Fine Art (Hot Press) and HPR question (Paul?)

PremierArt Smooth Fine Art (Hot Press) and HPR question (Paul?)

2006-12-23 by sagaface

Hello any and all users of this PremierArt paper (325 gsm). Paul, I have been noting your
high recommendations of this paper for some time, and finally decided to try it, as I like
the fact it has no oba's, unlike HPR.

My question to you, and anyone else who likes this paper over HPR: Hahnemuhle says the
slight texture of Photo Rag allows for maximum detail. I do notice that the PremierArt is
smoother, but to my eye I don't see any difference in detail, when making a print
comparison. While I do prefer the brightness of HPR, I am satisfied with a little less of that
in order not to have the oba's. And the D-Max is great.

Does anyone notice detail loss due to the smoother surface of PremierArt? I welcome any
and all comments about this paper, especially in comparison to HPR (never mind the cost
difference...that is definitely noted!), but not limited to.

Also, I am having a hard time getting it. Atlex is back-ordered and Inkjet is pricier, though
they did match the Atlex price when I told them how much cheaper they were. I'm not sure
they would do this all the time, though.

Thanks for any and all comments, raves or gripes....hope you all are having a wonderful
holiday!
Sarah

I have not noticed the difference in recent printing. Actually, overall,
I've thought that HPR's soft surface smoothed out the dots of older
printers. The Premier Art Hot Press surface seems harder and, in the past,
I've thought it actually showed the individual dots more distinctly than
HPR. This is just a gut feeling, however. I have not done high resolution
scans to see if there is any actual difference.

I thought that Epson UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper and PASFA (Hot Press) are the same papers?
