Help ... Which printer next????

Help ... Which printer next????

2007-01-08 by lancscott

Hi. I am a long time digital black and white printer. I started with
an Epson 1120 and the original Piezography software and inks. From
there I moved on to an c82 with MIS EZ inks. Fot the last 3 years I
have been using an HP 7960. I have been happy with the results from
all of the systems I've used, some more than others. I fear the days
of my 7960 are numbered and am looking for the next thing. I am torn
between the R2400 and and an R220 with MIS inks and a CIS setup. I
truly miss the look of pigment inks on Epson matte paper. I hardly
ever print more than 8x10, but am lured by the reviews I have read of
the R2400. I am also wondering if the 2400 would lend itself more to
the occasional sale of an image as more and more people are asking.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The 2400 is a superb printer and can be used

1) out-of-the-box with a simple workflow (article #9 at the link
 below)
2) or with a RIP, etc, if you want that
3) color or BW
4) K3 inks or refillable MIS K4
5) or custom BW ink sets with a RIP
6) matte or glossy by changing 1 cart

An extremely versatile printer you can grow with, and likely to be
around for a long time.

The 220 is now out of production and getting hard to find, and is more
limited in it's possibilities. On the other hand, if you can find
one, they do make very good BW prints with MIS R2 inks and can be used
in a simple workflow with the Epson driver, and is even possible to
make a limited range variable tone R2 ink set (article #10).

Currently having and using both, IMO the 2400 print quality is superior.

Regards,
Clayton
