Thanks Eric -

Thanks for your reply.

The prints for the museum will be inkjet prints that I'll be doing on the my Epson 4800. The print itself will be 420mm by 594mm (A2) in size and will be mounted on foam core. It's a small regional museum and there isn't a curator. The professional framer is helping me and he's quite sure that if I don't seal the print to the foam core we'll get substantial buckling, which frightens me. I think the spray is not acidic but it's a messy job and I think I'd prefer to use a dry mount press if possible, but would like some expect advice first.

Best,

Ted

Ted, I would recommend talking to the curator BEFORE you mount and find out
what they want. I'd first look into a reversible heat activated material.
Are these for ink jet or other types of prints?

I doubt that spray mount will be acceptable to the museum, but I don't know
the specifics of what they are for.

  Have fun.

  G'day -

Clayton's post about the Bogen dry mount press interests me because I'm
going to have to mount over 100 photos for a museum project and I don't know
whether to purchase a dry mount press or use spray adhesive.

Any suggestions about the Advantages or Disadvantages of each?

  Many thanks,

  Ted

  Hi Sarah,

  >You get what you pay for, I guess. Er, sometimes.

Most of the time, in my experience, with few exceptions.

  I'm using a 15" Saunders RotaTrim that I got in about 1983 or 84.
After 20+ years of pretty regular use it works as good today as it did
when new. It's one of the best hardware investments I've ever made.

I've also got a Bogen model 510 dry mount press that's equally well
made - anyone want one of those? ...long silent pause...oh well, sigh.

  Regards,
  Clayton

Ted, I would avoid the spray adhesives. I use a plastic type adhesive that
is made just for ink jet prints. Bien Fang/ Seal has some as well but this
is a bit less expensive from CMI moulding. Foam core can get a bend to it
for sure. You can reverse mount some stiffening strips of ¼” stock to the
top and bottom thirds to keep it straight or just use Gator Foam to start
with. It is much stiff to start with. Are they meant to be hung with no
frame? The spray adhesive needs to be the right pH or your paper may change
its color.
