Printfix Pro 2 Suite

Printfix Pro 2 Suite

2007-01-26 by blakebc

I got Printfix Pro Suite last week. Eventually, the calibration of my
monitor ended up the best I've had (this is my third calibrator in 5
or 6 years.)

The color profile of Epson Enhanced Matte on my R2400 (the only paper
I've done so far) is almost the same as the canned profile that came
with the printer which
is to say it is very good. It has slightly more detail in deep
shadows (and I mean slightly more). Most of the colours are
identical, but a few are slightly differnt. I can't decide which is
more accurate (with the monitor) or which I like best. I used the 250
patch target, and I think I'll try the 750 patch target to see if it
makes any difference.

There are a couple of things that wasted hours of my time. You have
to get rid of Adobe Gamma and I thought I'd done that when I deleted it
from my Control Panel and from the Start menu using Settings. On
ColorVisions website, but not in their instructions they say to right
click on the Start Button and
delete it that way. Who knew? That was good for many hours of
frustration before I found out the problem with the Spyder.

The program provides for merging the black and white profile with a
color profile and therefore I assumed it would improve the color
profile. I did it that way at first and the profile was not so good. I
resampled the patches etc. More hours later I tried the color profile
by itself and got the excellent result mentioned above.

What procedure did you use to get the "merged" profile? Have you tried
the procedure as outlined by Dave Miller from ColorVision. If not,
read Message # 1637. The procedure will give you a very good profile
for for color and B&W. I have followed his instructions and then print
out a Bill Atkinson test image(color) and a Keith Cooper Test image
(B&W) and have found the profiles to be very good. B&W's were very
neutral.
