R220 BO prints look great!

R220 BO prints look great!

2007-02-24 by scottkathe1

I found a new Epson R220 at a Ritz Camera here in town and picked it
up last Friday. My MIS inks showed up yesterday and I did a BO print
of a waterfalll that looks just great. I had been using a C86 with the
neutral inks and the full ink prints looked a little on the cool side
to me and the BO prints had slight horizontal banding. So I was
looking for a R220 and when I found it I ordered the R2W warm inkset.

The warm inkset print is way too warm for my tastes so I may order the
correct neutral inks so I can to variable tone printing. OR I could
just do BO printing which was my plan from the start. The BO print is
on EEM and looks great but is just a bit too warm for my tastes. Is
there a cooler mat paper so I can stick with BO printing. The BO print
seems to glow and I really like the look. I'm just wondering if anyone
has a recommendation for a slightly cool, a neutral paper and a
slightly warm archival paper. That way I can stick with BO printing
and use the paper to control the tone.

Thanks,

Scott

The "Great Paper Chase" article (#5) at the link below describes about
25 papers, including the ink tone they produce with Eboni BO. For
cooler tones than EEM have a look at Condor BW, Peregrine Smooth, and
Kayenta. All excellent papers.

Clayton,

Thank for the information. I took a look at your 'Paper Chase' article
after I sent my post and I'm glad to know the papers that are still
available that you like. Hawk Mountain has the following sampler
pack:2 sheets each of: Sparrowhawk, Grayhawk2BW, Merlin (Natural,
Photo, Textured & BW), Peregrine Velvet 250, Condor (Natural &
BriteWhite), Sharpwing Lustre & Glossy, Broadwing - total 28 sheets
but I'm only interested in mat papers. Maybe I should ask for a
sampler pack with 28 sheets of the ones you recommend, do you think
they would do that? I have also heard good things about Red River's
50lb. Premium Matte C2S, any experience?

Thanks again,

Scott

I don't know but it never hurts to ask.

Sorry, no. Haven't tried that one. If you try it please give us a
report.
