Using UT3D blacks for K4+CM approach?

Paul,

I'm about to order more inks from MIS. I need more UT3D for my 2100 and 
like to order a MISPRO/photo-black set for my 220. It occurred to my 
that with these inks I would have a complete set of inks to try your 
K4+CM approach on either the 220 or the 2100 if I would like to. That 
is, if I could use the UT3D LK and LLK instead of the MIS K4 LK and LLK 
that your are using.

Is that possible? Are these inks similar (or even identical)?

Joost,

 

The 3D LK and LLK are somewhat neutralized.  So they are not the same as the
MIS Pro LK and LLK, and would not work in the K4+cm approach.

Paul,

When I read your reply, I realized I expressed myself poorly. Actually, 
I meant the UT3D WARM LK and LLK, so the C and LC position inks. As I 
understand these are pure carbon, non-neutralized inks. Can THEY be 
used in the K4+cm approach?

Yes, but they are not the same density as the LK and LLK.  Most of the MIS
inksets have used a dark carbon that uses the old FS-C density.  The light
carbon is the usual 30% dark to 70% base dilution.  So, both are a bit
denser than the LK and LLk.

You could use them in that type of approach.  However, to be consistent with
the k3 inksets, I prefer using the k3 densities.  The idea is to get on a
learning curve and make curves, etc. that are easily adaptable to the k3
printers and standard inksets.

Thanks Paul, 

Since I'm still very happy with the UT3D set I won't order the K3 
blacks especially for this experiment. But it's good to now that I 
could give K4+cm at least a first try if I want to (I'm not too 
afraid of the curve making part).

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
