I've recently seen some fine B&W prints, 2200/UT7, made using Qimage. Question for users: Is it practical/good for routine single-enlargement use in common smaller sizes, such as letter and 13X19? I'm rusty with Qimage...have not used it for two years...back then I used it for multi-image, cards, "contact sheets" (and the interpolations beat Genuine Fractals).

Yes, I think so. I use it all the time and am very pleased with the results. I'll use it to print directly to the printer with the 2400 ABW or a PFP made profile. I'll also use its "Print to File" feature and then print through QTR. When I had my 2200/UT7 setup I'd used Qimage along with QTR Create ICC RGB profiles (Qimage won't print grayscale). The Qimage Smart Sharpening and interpolation can't be beat. Thanks Tom. What advantages did you find Vs QTR with CS2 (my normal practice)? Is Qimage>QTR mostly a way to avoid post processing in CS? Do you think it makes more sense for "conventional" images, such as journalism or weddings or generic scenics than for more intense "art" images in which each individual shot calls for careful manipulation? Hi John, I still use CS2 for editing as I don't find the Qimage editing features up to par with CS2. For printing, however, I find Qimage just a lot easier to use than CS2. Print sizing and placement, profile selection not to mention sharpening and interpolation is, for me, much simpler and print sharpening/interpolation is better . I use it for both the "conventional" image and "art" images I'll mount. I'm not sure what you mean by using Qimage/QTR to avoid post processing CS. With "Print to File" I can size and sharpen the image, add the QTR profile and then print through QTR. I'm looking at Lightroom now and it seems to have a nice print module but I ran some comparisons and I still think, to my eye, Qimage sharpening can't be beat. Qimage is worth its weight in GOLD. I never print without it. Dave. -- Web Site: www.david-keenan.com 2007 PAW: www.david-keenan.com/paw 2006 EuroBlog: www.david-keenan.com/euroblog [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
