Spongeless carts for 2100/2200?

Spongeless carts for 2100/2200?

2007-05-07 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
I'd been hoping to refill the carts of my 2100 but to my dismay, MIS do not list spongeless carts for the 2100.

Years ago I was refilling old style carts on my 1200 and it was a terrible nuisance. Not worth the hassle.

Is anyone selling spongeless refillable carts for the 2100/2200?

Using a mix of MIS Pro/UCK2 (magenta) inks would not be worth it for me without easily refillable carts for the MIS inks.

And swapping from UCK2 to MIS UT7 for times when I'm doing large amounts of BW display prints, to achieve better longevity and a cost benefit, would not really be worth it if I had to fight those sponges again. What a pain that was.

I'd go for MIS Pro with a CIS but for the magenta concerns - when my carts arrive I'll do a fade test in my sunny window and compare it with UCK2.

Does *anyone* do an easily refillable cart for the 2100/2200?

thanks,
Richard

Have you tried the MIS clear half sponge carts? I've been using those
for a while on my 2200 and besides a couple of bad chips they seem to
work pretty well.

They've worked well for me also. In fact, although I like the larger
capacity of the spongeless ones for the newer printers, I don't like the
fact that a sizable minority of the spongeless ones leak when the stopper is
removed. One just has to remember to prime the carts when they are new.

Richard:

Ditto to other remarks regarding the half sponge cartridge and the
2200. Other than the nuisance trying to pull out the plug to refill,
they have performed well for me. Not even one bad chip, and minimal
cleanings involved.

I use what is, in effect, a jeweler's screwdriver, sliding it down the side
of the stopper. It works well.

Is this a lot easier than the residual foam removal refilling method I was using with my 1200? I swore I'd never refill another cartridge and changed to a CFS for that printer ... but still the clogging made me swear I'd never again use non OEM inks.

But the cost has got me looking at MIS refilling again.

If it is a lot easier, I'll give it a go.

Richard:

It is so easy. All you need is a syringe, the resetter, and the
little bottom fill adapter (and ink). First fill, you need the bottom
fill adapter to "prime" the cartridge. When one cartridge gets low, I
top up any others that are getting low too, to minimize priming
cycles. As far as I can tell, there is no buildup of foam. Remove
Reset Refill Return; that's it!

It's totally different. The old bottom fill methods were terrible. The
2200/2100 half sponge carts have a spongeless reservoir where you fill from
a top hole -- very easy and reliable.
