Photoshop CS3 Win distortion w/unequal horizontal and veritcal printing resolutions
2007-05-18 by Editor P.O.V. Image Service
Ok, this is a PURE printing issue and reportedly ONLY under Windows.
Apparently on the Windows version of PS CS3, if you choose unequal
horizontal and vertical printing resolutions (i.e. 1200x600 in the
driver/print dialog), the image is distorted on output. It seems Adobe
wrote the code assuming that all the data would be piped over in
equivalent resolutions (although the talk of "square pixels" being the
cause on the Adobe forum thread isn't technically correct, but it does
describe the effect). So, it prints without distortion at 600x600, or
1200x1200, but not 2400x1200, etc. (All the reports I've seen so far are
strangely from laser printers - if anyone does experience this with
other than a laser printer, please let me know)

This was one of the earlier bugs reported, but it happened while I was
amidst taking my own finals and grading exams.
Basically, Adobe is telling people to simply print at the lower
resolutions. Unfortunately, as many who print know, many current drivers
don't list the printer resolutions for each "setting" anymore, simply
listing things like "Fine," "finest," "draft," "highest resolution," and
"best for photos" etc.
