Printing B&W in InDesign with custom ICC

Printing B&W in InDesign with custom ICC

2007-05-27 by gordonzola_177

I've been happily printing with my R340 and UT-R2 ink and ICC printer
profiles from Paul Roark using Photoshop CS2 for quite a while now.

I now have set up the layout for a photo album. For that purpose I
used Adobe InDesign since it's helpful to be able to see on the screen
what the album will look like. I figured it would be time saving to
print all these pages directly from InDesign (instead of going back to
Photoshop), but I can't figure out how to set the ICC profile in
InDesign... The ICC is not available in InDesign and the dialogue box
does confuse me.

I noticed also, that there is no grayscale mode in InDesign... (is
this relevant?)

My question: Is it possible to print B&W from InDesign just as I am
used to in Photoshop and get the same results? I somehow can't figure
that out...
Or do I have to get back to Photoshop, set up each page of my album
the way I already did in InDesign and print from there?

Desperately looking for enlightenment.
Gordon

I use InDesign CS2 on a Mac.

In the InDesign printer settings dialog, under color management, I can
set "Let InDesign determine colors", and right underneath it I can
choose the different profiles. However, my custom profiles do not show
up (in Photoshop they do...). I tried copying the profiles in all
sorts of folders where InDesign might be looking for them, no use.

Also, I noticed that while in Photoshop I work in Grayscale mode for
my B&W work, InDesign does not have a grayscale mode, I can either
work in RGB or CMYK. I somehow suspect that this has something to do
with my problem. (?)

I have a feeling I'd be better off sticking to Photoshop instead of
trying to figure out how to get InDesign to print the way I want to.

I suppose then it Paul is that needs to let you know why the profiles are
not being seen by In Design. I have not used his profiles nor downloaded
them so I don't know what they are for sure. Profiles made by PFP are seen
and used in both CS and CS3 versions.
