Is it possible to modify inkseparation.tif?

Is it possible to modify inkseparation.tif?

2007-06-23 by Sergei Antonov

Hello!

I am preparing workflow for QTR ink partitioning and linearization
using X-Rite Pulse spectro. Main problem was to write a program that
reads strips without color headers and TIDs -- I don't have color inks
in my printer. I prepared strip targets with 21 and 51 patches that I
could read in one or two sweeps, instead of doing spot measurements.
This program then could insert measured L data right to QTR
linearization table, saving a lot of time.
Next step is to modify ink separation image and convert it to series of
strips compatible with Pulse. I cannot figure out, how to add patches
to that image that will be printed 50% gray, is it possible?

Thanks,
Sergei

Both of these things have already been covered.

Rather than engaging in programming exercises, several folk have
simply printed the chard ID and row ID on a color printer, cut them
out, and tape them over the monochrome image.

There is a Pulse format QTR ink separations in the files area on this
group. Tape your color row ID and chart ID on that and you're golden.

Thanks for advice, I saw these posts and tried this way, it is quite a
nuisance, it limits target to fixed number of patches, and I cannot
unclog my color printer, so it is probably gone. Programming Pulse was
fun.
I am already done with the program, and it does more than standard tool
could when used with QTR. I have results in QTR several seconds after I
measured the chart, and it doesn't require use of color at all.
Besides, I could do spot measurements.
If anyone interested, I could post it here, it is Windows console
application.

I was actually asking specific question about inkseparation.tif.

Hi Sergei,

I would be interested in whatever you've learned and done with the Pulse.
I read your question about inkseparation.tif but don't quite know what you
want to do. But having created the file originally I'm sure I can help once
I understand what you want. Email me.

I'd be interestd in seeing what you've done/doing.
