2200 : Piezo Vs UT7 : hassle?

2200 : Piezo Vs UT7 : hassle?

2007-06-30 by djon43

Using Epson color pigments with 2200 I've had only one clog in several
years.. three weeks of sitting "on," no problems ...works great for
B&W with QTR...

HOWEVER MIS UT7 in another 2200 clogs between sessions after sitting
"on" or "off" for a week. Usually OK just sitting for a day or two.
It's easy to unclog (one or two cycles), but is Piezo ink less of a
clog hassle?

Does one or the other look better on some typical fine paper, such as HPR?

Is one or the other easier to control when printing?

Does one seem to dry faster than the other AFTER printing?

I have the impression that MIS UT7 dries faster than 2200 Epson
color...your experience? What about Piezo?

I've not used the UT7 but have used UT-R2 (which I presume are similar) and
the Cone K7 inks. Of the two I have experienced more clogs with the UT-R2's
than with the K7's, however I have not had real problems with either. As I
live on the Isle of Wight in the UK where we have a relatively damp/humid
climate (particularly this year!) you may well have different experiences.

My personal experience is that a 2200 that has a fouled cleaning
mechanism, a plugged drain tube at the capping station, or a fouled
pad in the capping station will clog, no matter what inks are in it,
and a clean, working 2200 won't clog with either UT7 or Epson UC. One
of my 2200 has had MIS inks for years, without a clogging problem,
longest off time about 2 months.

Try pulling the carts from both printers and putting the UT7 in the
machine that has the color, and the color in the machine that
currently has the UT7. If the machine still clogs now that it has
colors, it's the machine that needs work...

DRAIN TUBE? 2200 : Piezo Vs UT7

2007-07-02 by djon43

Thanks for the suggestion...I like half of your test suggestion :-)

I don't want to imperil the OEM 2200 by installing alien ink, but I
will install OEM in the B&W machine for a couple of sessions to see if
that works more reliably.

Why would a "drain tube" cause clogging?

Is the "drain tube" that 2mm clear tube connected with the pad?

Mine does appear to be clear...but maybe it's clogged at one end...

Do you have a process for cleaning it?

John
