6 tones with quadtone ink?

6 tones with quadtone ink?

2007-07-03 by John Wilton

Having trouble -again- with mislabeled Cone ink. Previously, some
years ago, LG ink in a MG-labeled 3000 cart, eventually diagnosed with
QTR, no thanks to Ink Jet Mall support, who failed to diagnose it
from the printouts they requested, instead having us send the 3000 to
Arditos for overhaul; having us buy ICC as well as plugin, and more.

This time its black ink in a DG bottle AND MG in a LG bottle, used in
a 1160 CFS. Needless to say I have totally had it with Cone ink
because of the time and energy and money wasted diagnosing and fixing
something like this - again.

Rather than getting the 1160 CFS back in operation, which would
involve buying and charging a whole new CFS, I'm thinking about
getting a cheap 1270/1280 and getting 6 tones from MIS FS quadtone ink
by mixing two midtones from (say) DG+MG and MG+LG, and
calibrating/linearizing with QTR. Refilling MIS spongeless carts
rather than getting a CFS. Has anyone tried this...any comments?

I'm using Paul's 4Ks system with MIS inks and refillable carts and I'm
quite happy with the results.
You may want to take a look at that approach. Do a search for 4K and
you'll get the appropriate links for all the info.
