Which Rendering Intent Do You Use?

Which Rendering Intent Do You Use?

2007-09-06 by danstainer

Does anyone notice a difference in their black and white prints between
the perceptual and relative colorimetric rendering intents? I am
printing from an Epson R2400 onto VFA. I looked at both prints side
by side and the difference appears negligible. Which intent do most of
you use? For black and white prints, does it even really matter--
especially given that my monitor is calibrated and I am using the
proper paper profile?

Thanks,
Dan

That depends on how you're printing your B&W images. If you're using
the RGB driver with regular printer/paper profiles, then you'll notice
a slight difference between Perceptual and Relative Colorimetric in
the tone response, usu. with a bit more shadow detail in the former.

If you're printing with the ABW mode then you shouldn't be using the
standard VFA paper profile because that profile is designed for color
work in the RGB driver only. You should instead be following a
workflow similar to this:

The exception is if you've had a special profile made for use with the
ABW driver.
