Platen Cleaner Spray

Platen Cleaner Spray

2007-09-18 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
I've been looking for a way to fix a problem with roller marks on solid black areas and found this platten cleaner spray.

http://www.marrutt.com/inkjet-cleaning.php

I wondered if anyone had tried it or had any ideas about locally available products that would clean the feed rollers. (I'm not sure if they'll be able to ship an aerosole can overseas.)

I did wonder if spraying glass cleaner on a piece of paper would do the same thing.

The local repair place (who I could hardly understand - I don't know what country he was from!) said put alcohol on a piece of paper but the Epson documentation says not to use alcohol.

Here are the instructions for the spray:

Platen Cleaner - Instructions for Use

We advise you to use this spray applied to a sheet of paper to create an inkjet cleaning sheet. This Paper ideally should be fairly heavy (200 - 300gsm ideally, for example Fine Art Papers).

- Spray both sides of the paper keeping 3 inches of the top and bottom of each side free of spray so the printer can initially "grab" the cleaning sheet.

- Put the sheet through the printer by pressing the paper feed button of the printer and whilst it is going through the printer hold the paper still for about ΒΌ of a second so the ink jet rollers skid across the paper.

- Repeat this about 10 times each time you put the cleaning sheet through the printer.

- Put the cleaning sheet through the printer roughly 5 times on each side.

- This process will maintain your inkjet roller friction, and maintain good paper feed

thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

I have successfully used this technique on my 2100 with Mr Muscle or
Windolene ammonia based glass cleaner. Have you tried this before
purchasing this specialist product? I suspect that the specialist
product would be ammonia based like window cleaner.

regards

Many thanks, Alistair. I will try the Mr Muscle which I have.

Let's hope it does the job - sending it to be cleaned by the repair people would cost about $100 plus 180km of petrol x 2!
