Black rendition with old quadtone set on 3000/QTR

Black rendition with old quadtone set on 3000/QTR

2007-09-24 by Gary Weaver

Hi all,

I plod along with a used 3000. The blacks never seemed as black as the
same black ink in a 1270 doing BO.

Yesterday, the grays were clogged and I got just the black printed.
The after cleaning cycle print does show that the black(RGB 0) is
compromised by the 75pct( I think).

I was using 11x16 thin watercolor pad with one of the glossy settings.
But, the black rendition is the same on other paper. I set-up qtr with
the Inkpress heavy matte.

Am I getting a overprint on RGB 0 because of choosing the wrong paper
type?? I was looking for less ink laydown.

I'm generally very happy with the prints, but in comparing these two
prints the Pure black is being toned down.

Every so often, some B&W imaging filters give me a file that
posterizes in qtr and just re-saving the TIFF clears it up.

thanks,

gar

Hi Gary.
Try zeroing out the gray overlap. You have 10% of the gray as going
into the full black. That could do what you are seeing. You also have
100% boost set up so you might be flooding the paper a bit as well.

Regards
Duane

Duane!!

Thanks for the input. I have to measure color values with a scanner
and I was getting 3-4 points difference between the two renditions.

What you say here makes sense. I couldn't equate the gray overlap as a
percent, so thanks.
