The Piezo black and FS black (which is the same as the variable-tone, VM black) appear to be virtually identical to the Piezo black. I can't say they are the same ink, but it would not surprise me. All these pigments are carbon based. They have a carbon core and are coated with black or a color. Some inks also have dyes in solution that have been thrown in. I think Piezo is in that category. All I was saying is that the Piezo and VM/FS blacks are equal, in my view and tests. If one sees a difference between them, it is probably due to the workflow or software. The 1160 Epson driver, for example, prints darker blacks than the 1160 Piezo software. The Pro 24 software may print even darker than the Epson driver on the 7000. That machine can pour out a lot of ink. So, it's probably a question of paper choice, etc. However, I've not done enough comparisons with that machine to have any conclusions. The bottom line really is that Piezo and VM/FS blacks are, in my view, the best combination of darkness and light fastness. They are excellent inks. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com
