Hello Group My Epson 4000 printer is complaining about a nearly full maintainance tank. Does anyone have a service manual they would be willing to share? - Or can someone explain how to do it? I am gratefull for any help I can get! regards Finn Krogvig Norway

Pardon the intrusion of a lurker, but could the list recommend a book that will take me through the steps of producing a bw digital print starting with scanning a silver based negative? I'm a programmer by profession, and I have years of experience in a wet darkroom. I'd appreciate anything that explains in terms of gamma, contrast, dodging/burning in ... etc... ie traditional, wet darkroom terms & techniques. Thanks. -Lew S

Check them out on Amazon.com. > that will take me through the steps of > producing a bw digital print starting with scanning a silver based > negative? In his "The Photographer's Guide to the Digital Darkroom", Bill Kennedy covers from scanning to printing, and for color as well as for B&W, in 200 pages. It's a good start and after you've read it, it will make a nice gift for an interested friend who has less experience than you do. In his "Mastering Digital Black and White: A Photographer's Guide to High Quality Black-and-White Imaging and Printing", Amadou Diallo also covers from scanning to printing, but only for B&W, and on almost twice as many pages, so it treats the process in much greater detail and at a higher level. Amadou's book is one in a series, and his series editor, Harald Johnson, is both on this list and himself the author of several books on digital printing. And one of this list's leading lights, Tyler Boley, was Amadou's technical editor. My guess is that you're going to be disappointed in the extent to which digital processing and printing are explained in terms of traditional, wet darkroom nomenclature and techniques. But as you go along, you can ask about that on this list and be sure of getting answers. Don't be shy. Good luck. -- Sam

Hello Finn; You don't need a service manual, you need a wide-format chip re- setter-they are a bit pricey, $50-60 US, but you can get 3-4 use cycles out of a waste tank because the ink dries out. And when it does get too full, you can pull out the absorbent pads and replace them with cotton balls, or even feminine napkins-anything absorbent. Just remember to do a visual inspection occasionally. I don't think Epson Norway is willing to sell me a service manual - they would rather I pay a lot of money to service it themselves. I am running on a tight budget here working on my own art projects. I am not a commersial business. So I hope for some understanding for asking for a service manual here, after all. regards Finn "Dr.Walter Schwartz" <471walter@...> wrote: > > I buy new one from from Eppson > Hello Group > > My Epson 4000 printer is complaining about a nearly full maintainance

Hi, you could look at 'Black and White Photography in the Digital Age' by Worobiec and Spence, published by David and Charles Ltd. It's got some good bits and stuff you won't be interested in - gimmicky manipulation techniqes. Being part of this group will answer a lot of questions for you. The Real World Photoshop books are indispensible. What format film are you scanning? Feel free to email me off list if you have any questions you don't feel like putting to the whole group. Good luck, Richard Hi Richard: I'm going to forward an email from a very good pal of mine who is planning a trip from NYC to New Zealand in January. I though it might be a good idea to put him in touch with you directly. I trust you have solved the insect problem. <g> Richard Massie (Brooklyn) **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products.
