R1800 3MK - QTR profile with Permajet Delta Matt

R1800 3MK - QTR profile with Permajet Delta Matt

2007-11-14 by espen.aasheim

Hi,
I'm new to the group, and new to digital printing, so I have
a few questions, but initially just one...

I'm going to be printing with the R1800, MIS 3MK setup and QTR.
To start with I have chosen 'Permajet delta matt fibre' paper.
Although I have found out a lot from reading threads in this
group and Paul Roark's pdf's I have not managed to figure out which
curve I could use as a starting point for this paper, as, to the
best of my knowledge, there hasn't been made any profiles for this
printer-ink-paper combo.

To get a smoother start and save some paper I wondered if anyone
here has a suggestion or two to which curve could be suitable for
this paper, I'd appreciate it a lot.

thanks,
Espen

Hi Espen,

If it's the old Permajet Delta matte paper (and not the new "Fiber Based"
glossy paper), use the MIS-Alpha (not the Warm version) profile. Both
papers use an Innova coating that is close to the same in printing
characteristic.

If you want to use the new "fiber based" Permajet paper -- or any other
glossy -- you'll need to set up a photo black system. What I recommend is
the new R260 "RC-PKN" put into 3 carts just the 3-MK. See Carl's post on
this. The RC-PKN in BO mode in a 260 made about the best looking glossy
print I've seen. It's a neutralized photo black, so it's not pure carbon.
It has cyan and blue pigments mixed into the carbon PK.

Good luck with the system.

Hi Paul,

many thanks!

Yes, it's the 271gsm matte paper. ..from what matte inkjet
prints I've seen, what I've read about the r1800 3-mk, and
the look of this paper, I guess I'll be sticking with this
approach for a while. But I'm sure the discussions in group
will tempt me to try other methods too.

Looking forward to making the first prints next week.

thanks,
espen
