Epson R260 BO

Epson R260 BO

2007-11-18 by Andre Moreau

Hello,

It seems that the Epson R260 doesnt tolerate mixing Epson carts with
MIS aftermarket carts. Either use all Epson's or all MIS carts. Can
someone confirm this?

Also, is BO printing with the R260 possible with Ebony black in the
black position and cleaning fluid in the remaining carts with or
without QTR?

TIA,
Andre

I did not notice a problem when I was doing this with the 260. In fact, I
initially thought that OEM Claria inks with Eboni might be a great
combination. However, I was very un-impressed with the built in profiles
and cost of the Claria inks. So, I may have pulled the Claria and put in
MIS color too soon to have noticed any problem.

I would be suspicious that the dye and Eboni would not mix well. I had
problems with Eboni in an old 1280 that had dye on the pads. The problem
didn't clear until I rinsed the dyes off the parking pad. In general, Eboni
is said to have problems with dye inks.

It's very possible with QTR. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/R260.htm
(Can you still get 260 carts and chips?)

Thanks for the reply Paul.

I've just received some empty carts a few days ago. Might be the last
ones for a while.

I've installed the re-filled carts and none will print, not even the K
position. I get a blank nozzle check. I've used the bottom fill
adapter to draw ink from the cart. I even tried the carts on another
brand new R260 with same results.

Top of cart has two plugs, one with a tongue.

TIA,
Andre

Be sure to remove the plug closest to the back edge of the cart. That hole
is the air intake. Presumably, it'll be the plug with the handle on it.
Keep that plug. It's the one you'll want to use when you start to re-fill
the carts. The holes are the same size, and the plug with the handle is
much easier to deal with.

Thanks Paul.

I don't know how I missed that. Must be getting old...:)
Anyways, everything's working fine.

Cheers,
Andre
