Cheap non-RC paper for PK ink question

Cheap non-RC paper for PK ink question

2007-11-18 by Scott Jones

Greetings,

For making cd case inserts and greeting cards I have been using Epson
Enhanced mat with R2400 PK ink. Blacks look like mud of course. I do
NOT want to change over to mat black ink. I do all of my fine art
printing with PK.

My question is, what would be an inexpensive paper that would react
well to the PK ink with good tones and still be a non RC paper so I can
fold it into cards etc. Ultimate quality is not crucial for me, but I
would like the image to look crisp and with decent dmax. I would like
to avoid the high price of the Harmon like papers which I will reserve
for my fine art work.

Thanks for helping with any advice.

Has anyone tried the Brilliant Supreme Matte, Calumet Photographic's
branded line of paper? I use it as a proofing paper, printing my
final prints on HahneMuhle Photo Rag. But I also use it to make note
cards and find it perfectly suitable for that. It's very inexpensive.

Just to be sure I understand, are you using PK on it and does it fold
OK without the surface cracking? Thanks.

No to the PK question. But yes to the foldability. I think you can
buy a sample pack for $6-7 that will contain matte, lustre, and
glossy. Give them a try.

Ah thanks so much but I am still specifically looking for an
inexpensive, foldable, PK loving paper for cards and inserts. The goal
again is to have the image look great with PK and not like it looks on
EEM using PK whrere the blacks are muddy and dim. Anybody else have any
suggestions?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
