Bill,
I also find the /Harman FB Al Gloss/ to be too glossy. I have been using
/Moab Colorado Fiber Gloss/ (Legion)
http://www.moabpaper.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=122
<http://www.moabpaper.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=122>
It's the closest I can find to a darkroom fiber paper.

Is it as cold white as the Innova Fiber Gloss full of oba? That is my
only problem with the Innova Satin, the bluish white of its base just
isn't practical for my black and white work.

John, here are some paper base LAB measurements from recent F type
papers introduced on the market.

Hahnemuhle FineArt Baryta- 99.9, 1.2, -3.7
Hahnemuhle PhotoRag Pearl- 98.5, 0.1, 1.6
Harman Glossy FB AI- 99.9, 0.2., -3.0
Innova FibaPrint Ultra Smooth Gloss- 97.7, 1.2, -5.4
Innova FibaPrint F-Type White Semi-Matte- 97.7, 0.8, -3.6

Clearly the tendency with the new F paper is for a cool base, probably
from too may OBAs. Only the PhotoRag Pearl, a very different sort of
paper than theothers, is a bit to the warm side of white. It's pretty
nice stuff actually, but let's lose that pearl eh? Never liked any
pearl papers ever...

Is anyone using the Innova Semi-Matte Warmtone? It's my favorite.

I want to amend this as I just got my hands on some of the Ilford Gold
Fiber Silk, which is paper not cloth, not silky, not suitable shirt
material, or anything remotely resembling silk or any other product of
worms. By I digress and found my meds.

Hahnemuhle FineArt Baryta- 99.9, 1.2, -3.7
Hahnemuhle PhotoRag Pearl- 98.5, 0.1, 1.6
Harman Glossy FB AI- 99.9, 0.2., -3.0
Innova FibaPrint Ultra Smooth Gloss- 97.7, 1.2, -5.4
Innova FibaPrint F-Type White Semi-Matte- 97.7, 0.8, -3.6
Ilford Gold Fiber Silk- 99.8, 0.1, -0.6

Ilford may have nearly nailed it. It's not blue, the surface is the
closest to that sweet spot I've yet seen, and as Mark said it smells
like fixer which is surely a stroke of marketing genius.
The other paper I'm liking more and more is the PhotoRag Pearl.
Also, Silver Rag has grown in my esteem as it's holding up over time
and a lot of beautiful prints are being made on it.
All this new marketing stuff like baryta and aluminum and fiber may be
diverting our attention.
Also, the F-type Gloss Warmtone is worth considering. I too quickly
lost interest when I saw the paper, the warmth of the base seem a bit
much when you see the bare sheet. Since then I've seen a lot of prints
on it and they were all beautiful.

Yeah, when I talked to one of Ilford's tech specialists he said they
targeted the final paper color to a Lab definition of white. And as
John Custodio pointed out, on the Z printers with gloss laydown in
"full" mode, there's no edge visible where the glop ends and the naked
paper border begins. Bronzing is a more complicated issue on the
Vivera inks, even with glop. and then there's the faint but present
starwheel marks.

But back to the paper. For me it really stands out on caucasian skin
tones in particular. A nice creamy glow, while maintaining sharp
detail. Overall, the portraits convey a sense of depth that is not
present on the RC papers. I haven't tested a lot of the other digital
fibres but the marketing game (ie baryta, air-dried, etc) is really
interesting. Next I think we'll see a paper that, after printing grows
a white beard for you, gives you a paunch and changes your birth
certificate to read, "Ansel".

I just picked up a sample pak of Innova Fiba Print and the only warmtone present was a
gloss. I printed it and it looks decent, but I do prefer more of a matte finish. I did not see
a warmtone semi-matte paper on Innova's website..can you lead me to it, please?

Thanks!

Tyler -

I suspected it didn't exist but when I read that post, I thought there was something I might
have missed :)

Hi AnnMarie.... Tyler (in a later post) is right. Innova semimatte
warmtone doesn't exist - I misspoke. I had ordered a split box, half
semimatte and half warmtone and I simply mixed the two up in my head.
 Sorry.
