Hinges for bookmaking?

Hinges for bookmaking?

2007-12-15 by Steven Karafyllakis

Does anyone have a source for the Lineco 12" cloth hinges that Red
River was selling a while ago? Apparently Lineco is no longer making
them, so it would have to be old stock somewhere. Anyone have some they
might want to sell?

Would you be able to make what you want from something from this place:
http://talasonline.com/

type hinge in the search box for something that might work.

Hi Steve:

I thought those Lineco hinges were a great product as well. I know of
two other suppliers, but they are not cloth:

<http://tinyurl.com/26o6hm> Print File (they are black and I'm not
sure what the construction is-the "detailed description" doesn't say.
http://www.pinazangaro.com/html/refills.html (these are white and are
made from polyester)

Many custom bookmakers such as Brewer Cantelmo in NY can make and
attach cloth hinges. This is often a preferable approach because
attaching hinges properly is not easy (at least not for me).

<http://tinyurl.com/2pjyux> (Kingston Hinging from Brewer Cantelmo).

Hope that helps,

Andrew

Hi Andrew;

Not to argue, but I still have a couple, and the part that does the
bending is a thin, fine texturered linen tape that flexes better than
paper or plastic. So I guess we're both right.

I found the Pina Zangaro hinges last night-They seem to have their
brand name stamped repeatedly along the length in the area that would
show on the page. Perhaps that is on the peel-off strip, if not, it's
unacceptable.

I 'll take a look at Brewer Cantelmo today.

Thanks for the input

OOps, sorry, I misunderstood-you're referring to the other hinges not
the Lineco-thanks

Hi Steve:

The logo does peel off of the Pina Zangaro hinges. I'm not crazy
about clear hinges for B&W, but they are pretty strong and well made.

All the best,

Andrew
