Martin, Antonis,

As list owners you should know it appears that MIS is trying to appropriate
your list, behind the scenes, for their own ends. It is my understanding
this list was not "developed around these (MIS) inks", but to be inclusive
of all brands and methods of digital black & white output, including but not
limited to inkjet, and certainly not specifically those from MIS.

Call me pedantic, but for those new to this list, and/or those who may be
learning about this list for the first time through mailings from MIS, I
feel this is a very important distinction that needs to be made.

It is my hope this list will be kept brand neutral, and as inclusive as
possible. It is also my hope that those vendors who participate with the
list behave responsibly towards it's readers.

Tim, Todd, Everyone,

If you look at the Description at the top of the group's homepage and
read Post #1 that pretty much says it all. We will do whatever we can
to meet those goals.

In the past few days the list has gotten very MIS heavy as a result
of the release of MIS's new inks and I believe a previous lack of a
good forum for MIS users.

The intent is to not only be non-brand specific but to be non-
technology specific as well. I ask all the members to post all their
experiences with all the alternatives for making a B&W print. Even if
it didn't work or you didn't like it, that is important information
too. I hope to see more posts on making contact negs, outputting to
LightJet, monochrome prints using CYMK ink sets, etc.

This group is pretty amazing already and I hope to see it grow.
Please help us live up to our goals.

Thanks,

Martin

Agreed! I'm willing to listen to input from a knowlegable commercial
spokesman, if it is clear that they are such. If such comments
become mere advertising, I hope that they will be shown the door.

Todd,

Martin and I are conferring on what is the best course of action. I certainly find
the MIS wording inappropriate. And it was certainly not done with our consent.

We will contact them and see what their intent was (beyond what it appears). I
sometimes think people write something with good intentions (the mutual
publicity benefit) but it turns out to "read" otherwise. For the record, we do find
it appropriate that the list is mentioned on the MIS site, as we do about all
other bw-related sites, just not the wording.

On the plus side, the nice thing about this list, is that it is appropriation- and
cooptation-proof. The ownership and most members are end-users interested
in making the best monochrome prints that fit their styles. They don't have a
vested interest in one product over another. So, unlike a list used by a
Manufacturer as tech support or promotion, this one will stay on course: if the
product doesn't work, or we like another better, you'll find out about it here.
Nobody is asked not to mention competitive products or their prices. On the
contrary, the more people from different BW technologies, the better.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Antonis
