1160 - image not perfectly centred on paper

1160 - image not perfectly centred on paper

2002-02-03 by frankg_photo

I am not getting my image printed exactly in the centre (side to
side) of the paper sheet.
If for example I print an 8 x 8 inch image on 8.5 x 11 paper, instead
of having exactly a 1/4 inch (.25 inch) on each side of the print
area, one side is slightly more than a 1/4 inch and the other
slightly less.

In the driver Properties> Paper tab > Printable area - I have the
Standard button selected and the Centred Box checked On.

Is there another tweak I can perform to correct this misalignment ?
thanks
frank

Frani --

No printer I've had has ever printed perfectly centered. Add a bit of white
space in Photoshop on the narrow side of the image. Experiment to find out
exactly how much...

First off, not all paper is the exact dimension it is supposed to be, so
check that first. Second, in the "Page Setup", instead of checking
"Standard" check "Maximum". This helps reduce some of the default margins
which may be throwing you off.

Not sure which version of PS you have, but PS6 has a very helpful "Print
Options" dialog box. If you have PS6 and don't use Print Options you're
really missing out.

Thanks for the good tips. I will try checking Maximum rather than
Standard AND I will be able to move the image position in Print
Options. i hadn't notced before that i can enter position values
relative to the picture's top left corner. Thanks.

When getting ready to print I go straight to Print Options because you can
access "Page Setup" and "Print" from within it. So after checking Maximum in
Page Setup I check Centered in Print Options to center it to the page, then
I'll uncheck Centered to raise the image to the optical center while keeping
it centered side to side (you may need to check "show bounding box" for
this). Then hit print, which opens the print dialog box.

Print Options is one of the best additions of PS 6.
