Question about Epson Velvet Fine Art on 1400 printer

Question about Epson Velvet Fine Art on 1400 printer

2008-01-15 by Zisis Kardianos

Hi all,
I recommended this printer to a friend who wanted an inexpensive A3
size printer capable of producing decent b&w results.
I noticed, to my great disappointment, that the bundled profiles do
not include the Velvet Fine Art paper which according to many reviews
is working very well with the Claria dye inks and it's the only
archival matte of Epson.
Anyone knows whether any of the bundled profiles is suitable for this
paper, or can anyone suggest a link to find the appropriate one.
Thank you,
Zisis

My experience with the R260 and other hextone color printers suggests
this printer will never be able to make good B&W prints with the OEM
inks and driver.

The best hope might be to have your friend buy QTR and print with
black ink only. Those profiles are easy to make. What is really
needed is to go to B&W inks, and I'm not sure cartridges are
available for the 1400 now.

My information on the R260 MIS B&W inks is at
http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/R260.htm That printer is
apparently very similar to the 1400.

Good luck.
