2200 roller marks on Ilford Gold Fibre Silk

2008-02-09 by frankg_photo

Hi all.
I'm getting back in after a long absence and am printing on Ilford
Gold Fibre Silk. I'm pretty happy with the first prints I've made but
I'm getting marks which look like rollers rather than the teeth of
pizza wheels from my 'old grey mare' (epson 2200).
Is this something others are experiencing and is there a fix for it ?
Also, any other tips on using this paper with Epson Ultrachrome inks ?
I'm just using Ilfords profile straight out of photoshop.
thanks,
Frank

Just got my first pack of the stuff from B&H and printed my first 3-4 letter
size prints last night on my 2200. No roller or pizza wheels that I can
see. I'm printing BO if that matters, and with the paper thickness level
set on "open".

Sorry, "level" should be "lever".....

I had no problems with roller marks.

Richard, are you using Epson pk or MIS for your BO prints with this paper?

Both, though I just this AM threw out a half full MIS Pro Photo Black cart
as it was clogging over and over again and the constant cleaning cycles was
simply costing too much in the other color carts. Back to Epson Photo Black
again and things are fine now.

2200 paper path causes problems with some of the new
surfaces...softer maybe than old surfaces...some are
reportedly problems for 2400 as well...

One easy fix: simplify paper path by feeding from
back, not top, and by elevating paper exit in front,
NOT by raising tray but instead by supporting paper
IMMEDIATELY as it exits machine..easily done by
putting a paper box on top of tray, up close to the
paper exit..

I had roller marks, not seen except at angle, on
several of new Moab/Legion's best papers as well as
their cheapest glossy (no problem with excellent old
Moab Kokopelli gloss or Costco gloss). My workaround
solves the problem. Might be possible to load from top
if only that elevation routine is used, but I've not
checked.

I agree about MIS. Works fine for a while. I'd prefer what I produced
with their B&W until I added up the hassle (many evidently love the
hassle, I don't mean to criticize it)..and threw out my MIS-dedicated
machine...probably retiring my remaining 2200 anyway...more into
photography than tinkering with printers/inks...will likely switch to HP.

Thanks. I'll try this paper path 'trick'

Hi Frank,
I'm on a UC 2100 and have steered clear of lustre papers because of the bronzing/gloss differential with UC K2 inks. I'd be interested to hear how this paper fared with our printer in this regard.

Many thanks,
Richard
