It seems strange that no one ever mentions this printer. It seems to me to be by far the best spec'd 17" printer out there, what with having the two blacks at once.

I'm dreaming, however, of a 17" roll printer that has two blacks AND Glop. Epson must be due for a new line soon????

dreaming away ...
Richard

Richard, 4800, 4880 are three blacks. With IP you can run two blacks with one being MK and the other being PK along with the LLK.
I think I'd rather make the GLOP choice after the print emerges from teh printer.

Yes, I appreciated that there are LK and LLK - I was somewhat ambiguously referring to the PK and MK - sorry for the confusion,

With IP then you would be back to K2 in terms of tonal gradation and metamerism due to one less K? Would that be an accurate assumption?

thanks,
Richard

Just to add to that. I get what you are looking for Richard with two Epson
printers, one with PK for colour and ABW, other with Matte ABW and Glop.
Doing Glop as a second pass to PK ABW. Early days, but looks promising.

Richard,

The Canon's don't use QTR and other 3rd party RIPs for B&W so far,
though Bowhaus is releasing their True B&W RIP for the Canon's. Also,
3rd party inks are generally not available. Essentially, this forum
is focused more on Epson printers.

I bought a Canon iPF6100 about 6 months ago, which I love, both for
color and B&W. Believe it or not, I am using custom "COLOR" profiles
for fantastic B&W prints that are truly neutral, by eye and as
measured by a spectro. I also like that I can use standard ICC
profiles for soft proofing, and that I don't have to create both color
profiles and a family of monochrome profiles. One profile does it all.

I give up the dedicated B&W inksets with the Canon, at least at this
point in time. No complaints, however. If you are interested in the
Canon's, the following link is a great resources.

The lack of one black should have no impact on metamerism failure on its
own as other factors are in play which have a much greater impact.
