First prints with the UT-14 inkset.

First prints with the UT-14 inkset.

2008-06-11 by Andre Moreau

Hello Paul,

Tonight I made my first prints with the UT-14 inkset on the Epson 1400
printer. They were made minutes after I put in refillables carts.
First printed a purge image and ascertained that the nozzle check was
good.

Glossy
Ilford Gold is back ordered for a few days at the store I placed the
order with, so for glossy I used Kirkland paper for the first time and
that was a nice surprise. I think I'll be going back to get another
pack before they raise the price :) I printed the same image with the
three profiles: N-1, LW-Warm and Warm.

Of the three, I 'm going with the LW-Warm profile. I like the tonality
with just the right touch of warmth on the white paper base. Warm
(Sepia) will go well with some images. Can't wait for the Ilford Gold
to get here.

Matte
I made a few BO prints on Premium Matte C2S using QTR and then other
prints using the Epson driver with the HPR-N-1 profile. These last
prints were more neutral in tonality with a little more contrast
compared to the BO print. Another nice surprise here. Will be looking
at other matte papers in the next days.

All in all, easy printing, great tonality, choice of matte or glossy
with the same inkset and lots of room to experiments with printing
papers. I'm a happy camper.

Cheers,
Andre

Hi Andre.
Sounds great!

Could you tell me which carts you've used, prefilled or empty's? If
you got them from MIS or an other seller?

thank you for the mini review.

Hello espen,

I got the empty refillable 1400 carts off eBay from a seller named
"simplyitem". They are R260 look alike carts that I once bought from MIS.

They come with a 6 pack of serynges and small diameter needles that
are way too sharp. Better use the one that MIS sells.

HTH,
Andre

Hi.
Thanks for the reply Andre.
Hopefully those wont be leaking, I had a bad experience with some ebay
r1800 carts a while back... Time will show.

Hello Espen,

Hoping that doesn't happen. How long was it before your carts started
to leak? And did you get them from the same eBay seller?

The ones I bought off eBay for the Epson 1400 are the exact same carts
(except for the chip) that I once bought from MIS for my Epson R260
printer. Those never leaked.

Just wanted to add that I've made more prints with the Epson 1400 on
matte paper using this inket and the HPR-N-1-c22 profiles.

Almost dotless skies and better tone transitions then what I was used
to with the Epson 1160. I simply love the contrast and tonality i'm
getting with this combination of ink-paper-profile.

Hi.

I didn't buy them from the same seller, no. Mine started leaking
within 2-4 days.
The ones I bought just looked very similar to the pictures I saw of
your 1400 carts on ebay. But since yours are similar or same as the
MIS carts I expect there there won't be any problems. I've never had
any problems with MIS carts, and I've only heard good things about
their refillables... there might be a subtle difference though, but it
certainly sounds promising.
