R1800 and 2MK1PK

I am currently investigating substituting MK in the glop position of my R1800. Image Specialist's PK on Costco glossy paper with no glop is not significantly different than PK with glop. And I prefer either one sprayed with Print Shield over no Print Shield. Therefore, there is no advantage to the glop position, at least in my mind. Putting MK in the glop position using QTR would give me 2MK1PK and allow me to do gloss and matte color and B&W ala Paul Roark (almost) without changing carts. Even better, I could install the CIS I mentioned in another post today. My question to the group is whether anyone has tried Paul's 3MK approach using 2MK1PK? A search of the forum only found posts about using dye inks to do this. I don't want dyes for reasons we all know. However, PK on matte surfaces does not give the dmax that MK gives. My thought is to use QTR and gradually blend in the PK just like the MK. My concern is that the resulting black of this 2MK1PK approach may have a noticeably lower dmax. The only disadvantage I can think of other than the dmax issue, if it exists, is not having a nozzle test for the old glop/new MK position. Has anyone tried this and what were your results? Any thoughts? Thanks All! Bob Marsolais
