Best inkset for Epson 1290?

Best inkset for Epson 1290?

2008-08-28 by neil0968

Hi everyone,

I have searched this topic on the group before asking this question and
have found some answers. My question really is which inkset would be
best suited to an Epson 1290 (I think the US equivalent is 1280?). My
concerns are really about clogging the nozzles which has been a problem
on my printer, even with OEM inks, well especially with OEM inks.

I would really like to go down the Carbon 6 route, mainly due to cost
and and also having the satisifaction of mixing my own inks (if that
makes sense). I'm just worried about clogged nozzles.

Would I be better off buying an off the shelf inkset?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Neil (United Kingdom)

Carbon-6 is probably one of the inksets least likely to clog. There is
no binder in it except for the residual from the Eboni, which is
relatively clog free.

If you give it a try, let us know how it works on the 1290.

Thanks for the reply Paul.

I cant find a source of Photoflo 200 in the UK but we can get hold of
Ilford Ilfotol wetting agent which is also a 1:200 working strength
mix. Do you think this is worth a try? I can also find Photoflo 600
but I seem to recall one of your articles/messages refers to you
using Photoflo 200.

Many thanks again,

Neil

Photo Flo 600 is the large lab (non-consumer) version of Photo Flo,
and is 3 times as concentrated as the 200. It has the same wetting
agent. You would probably get the same results if you simply used
less (1/3).

I'm not sure how much the additional glycol in the Photo Flo 200
matters. You'd end up with less of that also with the 600, but
offsetting this is that the 600's version of glocol is probably more
effective (though toxic).

I have some of the Ilford wetting agent but have not tested it. My
guess is that it's about the same. I'd just try one of those and see
what works.

Thanks for your help Paul, its very much appreciated.

I have another question I'm afraid. I'm about to order the Eboni ink
but notice there are a few references to Eboni on the inksupply
website. Do I need "EB6 Carbon Monotone Matte Blk (Eboni)" for the
Carbon 6 or have I picked the wrong one?

Thanks again,

Neil

All of the Eboni inks are the same. So, it does not matter which MIS
page you get the bulk Eboni MK from. The Eboni-6 page at
http://www.inksupply.com/eb6.cfm is as good as any. For Carbon-6
mixing, the K-position (Eboni) is the only one you'd be interested in.

I have been using an Eboni 6 inkset in my 1280 for about
four months now and have not had a clogging problem. However,
I do try to run a nozzle check about once a week.
