sl OT: need advice on monitor for printing problem
2008-11-14 by Scott Jones
I am having print match problems with my monitor and need advice. I currently run dual Synchmaster 930B 19" monitors. I am calibrated with the Monaco XR colorimeter. I run Windows XP on a high end desktop. I have become more and more dissatisfied with these monitors (they were cheap) in that the sweet spot for head position is very small. Side to side is no problem BUT up and down is bad. Move my head slightly up and the image is lighter, slightly down and the image is darker. So I am having some trouble getting the lightness/darkness of prints down pat. I suspect I need a better monitor without this variability in light/dark in the vertical direction. I have always been very impressed with the two biggest apple monitors in that they seem to not vary at all. I know nothing about non apple monitors for this problem and don't know where I would go to see some in that the local Best Buy etc, just has consumer grade gear. What should I be considering and how do I shop to see your suggestion "in the flesh" before buying. Thanks for any help you can give me to relieve this printing frustration!
