1280 ink question

1280 ink question

2008-11-29 by Tim Timmermans

Hi guys,

Yeah, I'm still using a 1280. Traditional carts.

I've been getting my inks off ebay. I noticed something that may be
old news to you but I hadn't seen it before.

Rather than a CIS or standard carts this guy is offering this... ebay
# Item number: 260317590616.

It's two empty traditional, but clear 1280 carts and six syringes.
Just buy the bulk ink and syphon and fill the carts from the bottles.

This differs from the CIS that I recall discussed here before. I
haven't been here in awhile so maybe this is old news to everyone but
me.

My question is has anyone tried these and what are your thoughts.

Many thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

I too have a 1280 which I love.

I flirted briefly with the clear refillable carts but gave them up in favor
of a CFS from MIS Associates as I found that the clear carts were just too
much trouble. Refilling them in the printer is too risky in terms of an
overflow during the filling process and consequent mess in the printer and
if you do not get the fill hold tightly sealed the ink can just flow
directly into the printer due to vacuum loss with another mess. I also found
that it's very difficult to see the ink level in the chambers in the center
of the cart. IMHO the CFS is the only way to go. I've had mine for well over
a year now and have had no major issues from day one.

HTH and good luck!

Tom

Thanks for the reply Tom. I thought the MIS CFS were deemed illegal.
Were they not sued by Epson?

Epson convinced the U.S. International Trade Commission to bar a number
of third party cartridges at the border. As far as I know there has
been no thread of a direct law suit against MIS. One third party
seller who got rather aggressive with ads has been directly
contacted/threatened.

So far, carts are still reasonably available, as are CIS/CFS units. In
fact, I think it'll be impossible for Epson to stop the CIS/CFS
approach. If need be Epson's own carts (recycled) and probably dampers
can be used in making them.
