noob help: eboni cartridge not recognized in r280

noob help: eboni cartridge not recognized in r280

2008-12-04 by David Murphy

I have an Epson R280. I purchased an Eboni cartridge to replace the
Epson black cartridge. I have followed the procedure in the Epson
manual for replacing cartridges and with the Eboni cartridge installed
and now both the green power light and and red ink light are lit
indicating expended/uninstalled/incompatible cartridges. The Epson
status utility shows the black cartridge as expended and all other
cartridges as uninstalled.

Have I missed a step somewhere? The exact cartridge I purchased was:

RCN-T0771-K B&W Ultratone UT-RCN Matte Black Eboni CARTRIDGE for EPSON
STYLUS PHOTO R260/R380/RX580 - BLACK Position w/Auto Reset Chip

Thanks

On my 260 I found I could not mix MIS and Epson OEM carts/chips. That
is, all of one or the other had to be in the machine for it to work.

Just to confirm, I need to purchase an additional 5 Eboni cartridges to
get the r280 to do black only? I'd like to avoid that investment, at
least initially, until I see what results I can get from just a single
cartridge.

Is it possible to swap the chips from the epson cartridge to the MIS
cartridge? They look similar but not identical. f

Thanks

I recently did some Claria black only profiles for someone teaching a
workshop, and we found he had to send me a full set of Claria inks
(used) before I could get my 260 to work. It did not look like the OEM
and MIS chips would interchange.

As an aside, the Claria BO had what I'd call an ugly greenish tint. So
I also made this person some simple neutralized profiles that threw in
a little LM just so he'd know what neutral looked like.
