Epson 1800 & MIS ink??

Epson 1800 & MIS ink??

2008-12-14 by gerardthomas517x

I am interested in starting to print some b&w on the 1800
printer.I've read/re-read most of the info i could find,and I'm still
not quite sure exactly what step to take first..
On the inksupply .com website ,it says"that oem epson ink is
compatible with the black inks from MIS",and that no cleaning is
necessary.
Then on another page it states that cleaning is mandatory.

1.do I need to remove all of the oem inks, and purge the printer of oem
ink,first?

2..After purging the ink,do I put the oem color catridges back in the
printer ,or leave them out?

3. Do I print with the 3 black cartridges only?

Any advise /help would be appreciated
Thanks for your patience
Mike

I don't think any purge is needed, except maybe going from MK in the
glop position back to glop.

As a matter of fact I have OEM Epson PK and Y in my R1800 now with MIS
inks in the other spots. No problems here.

You need a full set of cartridges installed (can be just cleaning
carts in the non MK positions) to print anything.

Hello Mike ,

This is what I recommend:

Buy these carts:

http://www.inkjetcarts.us/Categories.bok

And this MK ink:

http://www.inkjetcarts.us/Categories.bok

These are the same ink as MIS Eboni: made by Image Specialists.

Fill the 3 carts with MK and the rest with distilled water. You can
add 1% glycerin to the distilled water(99.97% pure available at
drugstores or Wal_mart) if desired. The glycerin helps to keep thing
moist. Don't add the glycerin to the ink. Just use the ink as
packaged.

Happy printing!

Scott

Are the (www.inkjetcarts.us) R1800 color ChromiumPro pigmented inks the same
as the MIS R1800 Ultrachrome inks and also made by Image Specialists?

Looks like it is time to at least replace my old MIS carts with new
spongeless carts.

Thanks,

Interesting. I wanted to try putting an Eboni K and leaving the OEM
colors in my 1400, but Paul said it wouldn't fly because you couldn't
mix OEM and 3rd party carts. I wonder why the 1800 allows it, and the
1400 doesn't?

It may be that the 1400 chips from MIS are auto-reset, the 1800 chips
I have are not. Maybe it's the mixing of auto-reset and not auto-
reset chips that triggers the problem.

[Digital BW] Re: Epson 1800 & MIS ink??

2008-12-15 by Roger

I think I have a mix of autoreset and not chips in my R1800- it's hard
to keep track because I swap them out when they fail.

I find the autoresetting annoying as they reset before they're depleted.

Actually, at the moment I have a R2400 PK cart in my R1800. The Dmax
is the same and it basically looks like the same ink (no color shifts
when using it)

I didn't even change the chip on it. I just took a razor to the
plastic part on the front that keeps it from fitting in the R1800
(look for the protrusion that's different between your R1800 OEM carts).

Mike, I mix carts because:

1. Epson ink is too expensive
2. I think R1800 Epson prints are ugly- they look plasticky on glossy
paper and look wet on glossy.
3. MIS ink looks less glossy and nicer to me
4. The Aardenburg tests showed MIS yellow fades quickly so I use
Epson K3 Ink from a 110ML cart for yellow.
5. My R1800 bands so I can't use Best Photo and MIS PK has a lousy
Dmax with Best Photo so I use R1800 or K3 PK to go from a Dmax of 1.9
to 2.4 on luster-type papers. Unfortunately there's a difference in
glossiness between K3 PK and MIS other inks but it's not too
noticeable on most papers. I wanted to see if R2400PK was less glossy
than Epson R1800PK- it's not.
