R1800 3MK BO

Two questions:

1) Do I need to have color inks in the non-black slots? In other words, I plan to keep cleaning cartridges in all the slots but MK, PK, and GLOP. Will this work?

2) What's the best way to prevent clogs? Someone mentioned amonia, but where do I put it?

Thanks in advance,
David

Hi.

You can use cleaning carts in the other slots, yes. I use MIS cleaning
solution/clear base stock (ESC-BASE-4-UC) in MIS refillable carts.

My experience with 3-MK in the 1800 with cleaning solution and eboni ink
in MK/PK/GO is that there is basically no issue with clogging. In a
couple of cases I've let it stand unused for five-six weeks and the
nozzle check was fine (but I might have gotten luck with suitable
humidity in my apartment, although it doesn't seem to make a difference
whether it's winter or summer).
If there's a clog it usually takes one cleaning cycle, if that fails I
put 1-2 ml. mr.muscle window cleaner, on the parking pads and let it
stand for an hour or so usually, or overnight if there's no rush, and it
has always given me good nozzle checks and prints.
Here's instructions for cleaning nozzles via the parking pad:

David,

Like espen, I use that very same setup and it works very well. It's about the simplest, most trouble-free way to go at quality b/w printing, at least for me at this end of the learning curve! I would encourage you to go for it.

And espen passed on a good tip in case I do get some clogging, ie the use of Mr. Muscle cleaner.. I'll print that suggestion out and put it in my "useful tips" file! Haven't had that problem yet but in case I do I'll try that. Thanks, espen!

David,

Just to amplify on my last message: what is working well for me is to use the MIS spongeless carts for the three black positions, and their OEM cartridge refill kit for the color positions... I have OEM color carts there. That way, in case I have trouble with those, I can run out, bite the bullet, and buy an Epson color cart. But that is rare, and it was cheaper than buying MIS spongeless for those slots. I may do that eventually, it would be handy to see the levels of the cleaning fluid, as they have transparent sides.

I keep spare empties of the carts for the black positions on hand, and some extra chips to allow me to swap them around if necessary.

Hope this helps, and good luck,

Paul
