R2400 printing problem / Mac

I started having "Communication Error" problems with my R2400 (Mac OS X 10.3.9) a while back. Had worked perfectly 'til then. I took the printer to Epson authorized service folks; they said the printer was working fine with their PC. I reinstalled OS X and Epson driver from the original disk (drivers from down load didn't seem to work). New USB cable (both ends light up). Now it prints sometimes; Mac seems to be talking to it and back. But I still get "Communication Error" messages. Any thought or experiences greatly appreciated. Thanks. Gotta print!
