Problems with my 1290S and VISTA

2009-05-23 by manron2001

Can anyone help me please. I have only had my 1290S for about two and a half years since new and tend to use it infrequently for both black ink printing only and colour but since I have bought a new PC running VISTA I now find that Epson Status Monitor no longer works showing a grey out display when I click on the Utiliy tab? So am never sure of the status of the cartridges.

The printer gave no problems with XP and is connected to the PC by a five port hub as before and is a Intel core Duo E4600 @2.40GHz 412GHz. RAM2 GB 32-bit VISTA Home Basic SP2.

Being an "old guy" with moderate computer savvy I would appreciate any simple advice you can provide to help me recover Status Monitor. Epson simply do not respond to my emailed technical query form they provide on their web site. The printer still produces excellent A3 Plus prints

Regards, Norm

Hello Norm,

I can't help but can commiserate. I have a workhorse HP deskjet 6122 that's been a fantastic general office printer for several years. On my Vista PC it works ok, but the Preferences window won't stay open. It opens for an instant then closes. So there's no way to change the settings, which I need to do on occasion. HP has no updated drivers. Vista sucks. Fortunately my main work PC runs XP. The Vista machine is just for testing (I write software).

Regards,
Clayton
