Hi, Does anyone have knowledge of good B&W galleries in San Diego, CA? Thanks, Paul www.PaulRoark.com

When I was there in June, which is a while ago, the museum of photography had an interesting Ansel Adams exhibit. There were three different prints of "Moonrise..." and a straight print. As I recall, there were also different versions of some of his other prints. The comparisons were interesting. Hi Paul, I live in San Diego. I just joined the group today. Have you gone over to Balboa Park yet? And I think I saw a place in the Old Town a couple weeks ago. I'm new to San Diego as well...just moved here in January...but that's where I've seen a couple galleries with B&W work. I seem to remember seeing a gallery in Little Italy as well but I seem to remember that it wasn't strictly black and white. Good day! Mike Mike Larsen Studios www.mikelarsenstudios.com

When I studied photography at Grossmont College, somebody in the photo dept printed up a T shirt with that prominent (aviary?) building in Balboa Park, the one on your left when you drive in from 6th ave- in a circle with a line through it : ) James On Aug 20, 2009, at 12:20 AM, pr_roark wrote: >... Balboa Park is an attractive place. Just ask the Grossmont College photo dept. : ) On Aug 20, 2009, at 10:31 AM, "pr_roark" <pr_roark@...> wrote: > James Irelan <james@...> wrote: > > > > When I studied photography at Grossmont College, somebody > > in the photo dept printed up a T shirt with that prominent > > (aviary?) building in Balboa Park, ... > > They have botanical gardens building that looks like an aviary and > has a lot of photo opportunities in it. > > Paul > www.PaulRoark.com > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I find it quite interesting to just "people watch" because there at Balboa Park are so many opportunities for interesting "human interest" or "character studies" just by observing some of the people there. I also love to just walk around downtown because the city is also full of awesome photo opportunities. I do watch where I go though because I normally have two cameras around my neck worth many thousands of dollars and I have a 35-70mm zoom on one and a 300mm f2.8 on the other. Surprisingly, the homeless folks present wonderful opportunities for photos but I will use a large lens for those just so I can capture the moments without being in their face. I do talk with them and that's usually a rewarding experience too. Some of them are quite interesting and intelligent but there are some from whom I keep my distance. Happy shooting! Mike

These are apparently vintage photos and sell for thousands of dollars. Some look like old RC proofs that had been crumpled up and thrown away -- really awful, messed up prints -- but very expensive. Nonetheless, it's a very interesting gallery with some classic images. It's definitely worth visiting. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Oh ya. I remember that place. Great classics to be seen there but definitely on the high side for pricing. Have a great weekend! Mike
