R2400 take it away

R2400 take it away

Before I list this machine on Ebay I wanted to offer it to the group. For shipping costs and a nominal fee for carting it to UPS I will send you an Epson 2400. This machine has had lots of use and has gotten too cranky and unreliable. I am letting it go as is as a parts machine. It is in its original box with all of its parts (roll paper holder, rear paper heavy paper guide, and matte paper support for the standard paper feeder), software CD and manual and 3 sets of carts, 2 OEM inks all used to some degree and a set of refillable carts (emptied out)that I just got.

Write to me off list to make arrangements, first come first served.

Cheers,

William Harvey

Your favorite fine art paper sizes

2010-03-31 by Pacific New Media

As a photographic/fine art material supplier we are in the process of
converting some fine art papers from large sheets or long rolls to
smaller sheets or smaller rolls.

There are too many paper sizes we can choose to convert to. So my
question is, what is your favorite sizes of fine art papers?

Phil

Hi,
not many people supply 17x25" which is a useful size.

Interesting size. Never thought about this size. I guess 16x24 will be
close enough for this one. 16x20 might be too squareish.

17x25 facilitates 16x24 prints (e.g. 6x9 format). A lot of my work is in
that format. It also cuts nicely in smaller pieces that allow 8x10, 8x12 and
also 11" prints (e.g. 11x14 & 11x16.5) without the need to print borders.
Borderless printing is not supported in QTR.

Re: [Digital BW] Your favorite fine art paper sizes

2010-03-31 by Pacific New Media

Indeed a good size. We will definitely consider to convert to 17" roll
paper and 17" sheet paper.

Other than paper sizes, I also have a question about the
thickness/weight of papers smaller printer can print with.

1) Can current 17" and 13" printer able to handle 350gsm to 500gsm fine
art sheet paper?
2) Can current 17" and 13" printer able to handle inkjet canvas around
20 mil?

Thanks,
Phil

The heaviest I've printed on my 2200 and 3800 are 320 or 330gsm.

Why has nobody ask what papers he is talking about? Wouldn't you want
to know that first? And are his prices competitive. A Google search
turned up nothing about Pacific New Media as a fine art material
supplier, did I miss something? Is it just a e-mail scam?

Re: [Digital BW] Your favorite fine art paper sizes

This is a new endeavor. There are quite a few fine art papers in large
sizes and sheets to be converted. Those papers include: Somerset Velvet,
Fine Art Matte By Arches, UltraSmooth Fine Art, Matte and Glossy Canvas,
White Film, Exibition Fiber, Double Side Matte, Moab Entrada. We are not
planning to deal with regular glossy luster semi-gloss satin papers.

There are a few exceeds 300gsm on the paper weight like Somerset Velvet,
USFAP. I wonder if there is a need from the artists to use smaller and
thicker papers, if 13" and 17" printers do not handling think and heavy
paper well.

Prices are not finalize yet because we are working on sizes and
packaging but I expect it will be attractive.

Thanks,
Phil

Re: [Digital BW] Your favorite fine art paper sizes

Thanks Jim. That would be the three most popular paper sizes, for letter
sized, A3 sized, and 17" inkjet printers.

I always wonder why people still use 11x14 or 11x17 size inkjet paper.
Other than large format laser printers, there is no current inkjet with
11" output size.

Thanks

Re: [Digital BW] Your favorite fine art paper sizes

If you make a lot of 8x10 prints, 11x17 is more economical (cut in half),
plus you have the option of making larger prints if you want.

13x19 comes at a 30% premium (over 11x17), at least for Canson Montval
Aquuarelle in Canada. That's fine if you're doing 12x18 prints. However, if
you want to print 8x10's you will have some waste, and you paid a premium to
start. 8x12 conversely, works very nicely with 13x19 paper.

As you can tell, I do more smaller prints than larger ones. 8x10 and 11x14
are common off the shelf frame sizes up here, which is what my print
customers are thinking about (8x10 mostly). I cut my own mattes, so it's not
a constraint for me.

Re: [Digital BW] Your favorite fine art paper sizes

Thanks for the insight on 11x14 and 11x17 sizes. It does make sense -
8x10, 11x14, 12x16, 16x20 frames are easier to find. 11x17 and 13x19 are
rare.

Now about smaller prints. I really like to look at small size prints,
sizes around 8x10 and under, because I usually like to inspect a print
more closer. I looked at antique prints like etching, engravings,
lithograph almost daily so my eyes have been trained without the need to
use a loupe to see some very fine lines and tiny dots. When I was at
Metropolitan Museum of Art at New York last time it was interesting
looking at Edward Weston's contact prints, usually around 7 1/2 x 9 1/2.
And there are a few pieces of 4x5 too. It is a different experience
comparing with looking at Andy Warhol's huge silk screen prints.

Thanks,
Phil

Re: [Digital BW] Your favorite fine art paper sizes

2010-04-01 by Terry Ritz

I completely agree. There is much to be said for the elegance of a 7 1/2 x 9
1/2 print. I have two portfolios by other artists with images approximately
that size, printed on 8 1/2 x 11 media. I really enjoy pulling them out and
looking through the sets while they are immediately in front of me. I think
you can connect in a different way.

Terry.
