Re: Fwd: First audio examples of A-188-2

2006-10-18 by selfoscillate

hello jean,

some time ago i had the chance to try the first prototype
of the a188/2. it can indeed be used as a multitap delay,
but the delay times on bbd ic's are quite short, so
you won't get these long multitap cascades that a digital
unit can produce. the strength of the a188/2 is clearly
the generation of chorus and flanger effects,
especially chorus is cool on that device.

the a188/2 is quite versatile, but i wouldn't say that you
can do everything with it. especially the shorter bbd's
(from 128 to 512 stages) can do a few things which are
not possible on the a188/2. also the sound is a bit different,
especially at high feedback settings. it seems that bbd's
with more stages have a harsher sounding feedback than
bbd's with less stages.

regarding the first sound example, i think it gives
a good impression about what this module can do with
just one single waveform. the tiny waveform is getting
quite thick imho.

best wishes

ingo
