For tweaking, nothing beats a modular :)

Have a look at http://www.modular-planet.de/modular-planet-survey.html -
there are some drum patches to listen to and look at for inspiration. In
addition to the modules you'll see there you may want to get an A-155
sequencer for easy control, the A-160/161 combo is also good and you'll need
an LFO to drive them. Also, a couple of multiples is a good investment, as
is the A-162 trigger delay as it can add "swing" to your drum patterns and
shorten or lengthen triggers where needed.
