Alternatively seek out an cheap old synth with CV gate output.
 
I know that even a Roland SH101 or SH09 can be expensive when view as
just a keyboard but you also get the synth as well.
 
Lesser desirable makers are worth checking out like Teisco as they fall
under the collectors radar.
