The stripe is normally used to identify pin 1 and this is the way it should 
be used. However, on systems like Doepfer the only important point is that 
the stripe is orientated to the connector/board the same at both ends i.e. 
bottom-to-bottom (described way) or top-to-top.

Some systems like my Panther, however, use polarised connectors (the headers 
on my modules are boxed and orientated) and it is essential that pin 1 goes 
to the right spot and, theoretically, the strip is not important as long as 
pin 1 is connected to pin 1 and is installed in the right orientation.

So, the technically correct way is that the stripe should identify pin 1 on 
the connector and at both ends. If this is followed by everyone then you 
will not have problems installing power cables as long as you observe the 
orientation markings on the modules that do not use a polarised connector.
