Exactly, but even more basic than that, yes I know that Doepfer gives 
you plans with the DIY kits to build your own cases, for those who do 
not possess great woodworking skills or do not have access to the 
tools necessary to cut and drill the wood, these DIY kits are not 
very useful.  Plus if you already offered these as melamine or 
plastic veneer covered pieces, they would be very attractive (at 
least better looking than the compressed sawdust board in the Doepfer 
instructions).  As far as the rack case, what I am looking for is 
more akin just to the front mounting frame (not a complete box like 
the G3 or G6) along with a power supply.  Synthesizers.com has 
something like this available(QCR8 for $65)  along with a power 
supply that has a wire harness with connectors for 8 modules (QPS2 
for $95).  If you have a rack case lying around, it makes the initial 
case / mounting rail / Power supply investment at only $160 (US), 
much lower than the Doepfer G3 price of $460. 

So no, Doepfer does not already make these cases.
